A Minister's Journal: Sermons and Essays

Pedro A. Carranza (1903-1956)

The Reverend Pedro A. Carranza was a teacher and a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ who, as an Ordained Minister and Pastor, served congregations of Christian Churches in San Antonio, Texas, Deming and Roswell, New Mexico, and San Jose, California. While a student at the Baptist Seminary in El Paso, Texas (re-located from San Antonio), he served congregations as a Missionary in La Mesa and Deming, New Mexico. His preparation for the ministry began as a part-time student at Moody Bible Institute while living and working in South Chicago, along with the support of his wife, Enriqueta, who served also as his translator while attending classes at Moody. He was a gracious, loving father to six children, one of whom, Andrew, died while at Seminary. He held firmly to the Five Solas: Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone); Sola Fide (Faith Alone); Sola Gratia (Grace Alone); Solus Christus (Christ Alone); Soli Deo Gloria (Glory of God Alone). He died peacefully at his San Jose residence after a brief illness ended his brief life. His strong devotion to our Christian Faith and sacrificial service to Believers continued to his last days.

The book, Sola Scriptura: A Minister's Journal, Volume I consists of a selection of 50 from hundreds of sermon outlines, notes, and lectures handwritten and typed by him. The sermon notes span the early 1940s to the time of his last ministry as Pastor of Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispano-Americana in San Jose, CA. Volume I sermons focus on four main themes: Scripture Alone, Jesus Christ Alone, Faith Alone, and Grace Alone. These topical sermons include clear, distinct, brief closing applications for the work and life of those attending Sunday Worship and other Church Worship sessions. Pastor Carranza dedicated many hours to the study and teaching of the Bible. He believed and preached the authority of Scripture Alone and taught Justification by Faith Alone. His were primarily instructions in sanctification, offering knowledge, wisdom, and warnings for living the life of Christian disciples.Future posts will be comprised of a number of his unpublished sermons, sermon outlines, and essays -- uploaded month by month as time permits.
